The Miami Biltmore Hotel…A Fabulous Tribute to Florida Architecture
Another cool spot in my Great Weekend Getaways series
I am in Miami this week for the International Real Estate Congress. I will be meeting International Real Estate Specialists from around the globe, learning about the latest happenings in the Global Real Estate Market and visiting some of the newest developments in Miami. While I am here to work this weekit is definitely a great place to come and play for a long weekend. The setting could not be more perfect, the historic Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables. It is tres chic! Built in the 1920s by George Merrick, who also built the University of Miami, this incredible masterpiece has been beautifully restored over the years, and is now part of the Leading Hotels of The World Group. In the early years, the Biltmore was the destination for celebrities and jet-setters from all over the world. Johnny Weissmuller, before his Tarzan days, was a competitive swimmer in the legendary Biltmore pool.
Fine dining abounds in the hotels highly-rated restaurants.
You can feast on French cuisine at the Palme DOr...my four course meal was absolutely fabulous! The Italian/Mediterranean menu at the Courtyard Grill is intriguing, or try dining poolside for some French/Caribbean fare! After 18 holes on the Donald Ross-designed Biltmore course, you can grab a bite at the 19th hole grill. The Biltmore Spa provides plenty of treatments for the ultimate in pampering. I might have to treat myself to some of that while I am here! The 10,000 square foot Fitness Center was rated by Mens Health magazine as one of the Top 10 Hotel Fitness Centers in America!
I ran into David Caruso, from CSI Miami, while I was relaxing in the lobby. He was “just in the neighborhood” and ducked in from the thunderstorm with his toddler in tow. I said, “I guess you’re not working today!”, like he was just the “guy next door”. He’s on a three-week hiatus from the show, he explained. We chatted about having a private life as a celebrity and then…he was off…chasing that 2-year old around the Biltmore was giving him plenty to do!
The Biltmore is just steps from all of the upscale shops and restaurants in Coral Gables. Its the perfect destination for one of my Great Weekend Getaways!

Hey Jackie - that’s a great way to summarize the Biltmore, I’ll be on my way to get you - are you ready for Mojitos?

I do enjoy staying at the Biltmore. Tami and I have taught the CLHMS class there. Last week, just before the International Congress, my son, Rob Johnson, was there for Laurie’s CLHMS class, which was his last requirement for the designation. His family enjoyed staying there as well.
