Davis Islands…A Favorite Neighborhood in South Tampa…Tampa Real Estate News

If you are buying a house in Tampa and are looking at the various South Tampa neighborhoods, Davis Islands should be at the top of your list!

Davis Islands, was built in the 1920s by Tampa native and developer D.P.Davis, who later disappeared on a mysterious journey across the Atlantic when the depression hit and the banks were closing in on his unpaid loans. The islands, actually, an archipelago, were originally three islands, until the end of the islands were filled in to build the Peter O. Knight Airport.

Today, consisting of two islands connected by a small bridge, this popular neighborhood Davis_water still has many of the original Mediterranean homes from that era,which have been preserved, and newer homes are often built in the Spanish tradition in keeping with the original architecture of the period. Home prices range from the 500s to several Million, with many homes available on the open bay, or deep-water canals.

The neighborhood is pedestrian and bike-friendly and the Davis Islands Yacht Club, at the tip of the island, has sailing clubs for all ages. Highly-rated schools: Gorrie Elementary, Wilson Middle and Plant High make it a top choice for families.

Downtown Davis Islands is a busy place with banks, shops and restaurants. Cap_rice The Pink Flamingo is the perfect spot for breakfast. Youll find me there every Thursday morning. Chez Bryce offers dining on an open terrace with amazing French Bistro-style cuisine. Two Twenty East, Tate Brothers Pizza, Thai Island and Estellas Mexican Cafe round out the many dining options.

Ex_treme The area was recently featured on Extreme Makeover Home Edition when the Tate Familys home(left photo) was rebuilt after a plane crashed into it last year!
